QUETTA: The Balochistan government has allocated Rs861 million in the current financial year 2023-24 to expedite the construction of Mangi Dam, aimed at providing clean water to the residents of Quetta.

Upon assuming office, the provincial government immediately released the funds to ensure the timely provision of safe drinking water to Quetta city.

Mangi Dam, with a projected cost of Rs19 billion, is expected to supply 80 million gallons of water daily to Quetta and surrounding areas. A Balochistan government official confirmed that the development work on the dam has been accelerated to meet the completion schedule.

The construction of Mangi Dam will address the region’s water shortage, primarily reliant on rainwater. The completion of this project is anticipated to resolve the water scarcity issue in the provincial capital.

Addressing water scarcity is a top priority for the current government, led by Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti. Steps are being taken to ensure the availability of safe drinking water throughout the province.

Additionally, the government has released Rs351 million to transition 493 water supply schemes to solar energy across various districts of Balochistan by the end of June 2024, under different phases of the solarization project.
